Thanks a million for helping us beat our walk goal!

As 2016 comes to a close, I would like to give a huge thank-you to all of you who gave your time, dedication and energy to help make this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s the most successful in our chapter’s history. Because of you, we surpassed our $1 million goal!

Money raised by the Walk to End Alzheimer’s supports research for treatments and a cure.  As many of you know, Alzheimer’s is the most expensive disease in the nation and the only leading cause of death in the top 10 without a way to prevent, cure or slow its progression. Five million Americans are now living with Alzheimer’s, and this number could reach 16 million by 2050 if no treatment or cure is found. We are committed to finding one.

Funds raised by the Walk to End Alzheimer’s also help us support families living with the disease through care consultations, support groups and educational programs as well as social activities for people with dementia and their caregivers, respite opportunities and safety services for people with dementia who wander.

In addition, we strive to be a community resource for diverse populations through programs and support groups offered in Spanish and the Purple Sunday initiative designed to boost Alzheimer’s awareness through houses of worship in the Hispanic and African-American communities.

As a newcomer to the Hudson Valley Chapter, I am pleased to be a part of the vibrant and dedicated group of volunteers and staffers who make all this possible. I look forward to continue working together in 2017 to make the end of Alzheimer’s a reality.

I wish you all a joyous holiday season. Thanks a million for everything you do!
